Peace...

My daughter and I went to the drive-in tonight, to see 'The Adventures of SharkBoy and LavaGirl', and 'Madagascar'.  This was the first time she'd ever been to the drive-in, and she was VERY mad at me when she saw all the other families there, pulling out lawn chairs and blankets..."Why didn't WE bring lawn chairs, Mommy?"...
Because I didn't know that was the thing to do! But now that I'm fully versed in the drive-in experience, I'll be sure to bring supplies next time - apparently your CAR is not enough...
'SharkBoy' was okay...we left halfway through 'Madagascar' because we kept falling asleep - not that it wasn't good or anything, it was just too late...
So of course I get home and I'm still not asleep!
I finally got C's report card in the mail today...thank goodness!  It's such a relief to finally be able to put this year behind us and determine that next year will be sooo much better.  How many times was she absent this year? Fifteen. FIFTEEN!  Between her illnesses and doctor visits (and doctor bills) and surgeries (well, just that one), I'm so thankful that now she's healthy and doing better and she managed to pass all her classes even though she wasn't there half the time. Goodbye, awful terrible 7th grade!
(Remember 7th grade?  I started my 7th grade year in Kitzingen, Germany, and ended it in Louisville, Kentucky.  I remember EVERYTHING about that year - the culture shock of being back in the states after a childhood in Germany will probably stay with me forever.
But the bad thing is, remembering everything, I remember well doing things I wasn't supposed to, and the stuff I was exposed to...and here my daughter is, at that age!  She'll be thirteen next month.  I need some amnesia, I think...)
Sheesh, it's 2 a.m., and I have to be up by 6:45 a.m. ... WHY do I stay up late and write nonsense when I should be in bed?
And why do I get up at 6:45 a.m. when I don't need to be at work until 8:45 a.m.?  Because I have to be in and out of the shower by 7 a.m. - that's when 'the pretender' comes on.  I have a new addiction...

  1. Culture shock...you reminded me of an old friend. I met her in 7th grade. She was fresh in from Austria. Karen was tiny, cute and so sweet...and completely clueless about fashion and current pop culture. The kids were so mean to her and made fun of her accent (she spoke English perfectly, just slightly accented). She went on to be the valedictorian of her graduating class (I switched school systems). Sad that I lost touch with her. She was one of the few that would sit with me at lunch in those days.

  2. I love The Pretender.  My dh and I used to watch the reruns in the afternoons when we first moved in together.  Of course he was watching it for the action and I had another reason (Michael T. Weiss--whatever happened to him?).

  3. Wish we had drive in's here!!!!!
I have been doing the same thing with staying up late.  The other night it was starting to get light when I went to bed!  Hope you managed to get some sleep, and more of an earlier night tonight.

  4. Oh, I remember when The Pretender was on prime time... I used to watch it and The Profiler. Both very good shows that required you to pay attention. No wonder they got cancelled.

  5. I loved the drive in...when I was a kid, and later as a teenager...now we don't have any here anymore...Josh will never experience the fun of sitting in your car watching a movie with a ton of other people in their cars... ::sigh::
YAY!!!  She is an 8th grader!!!!  Watch out...those teenage years are right upon you!!!!!!!  YIKES!!!!  :D

  6. I have always been fascinated by the drive in movie concept...being a stuffed shirt brit who has to sit indoors to view his cinematic entertainment, I have always had a hankering to sit in the great outdoors and watch a flick. I am sure it would probably only enhance the experience and no doubt make films that would have been forgettable in the cinema memorable due to the surroundings!

    Kepp writing, superb blog.

  7. I forgot to bring chairs to the Free Friday Flicks the other night.  We were laying on blankets in a sea of chairs...

  8. (((MICHELLE))) Geesh I've miss ya chic!  I just know this year will be so much better for you and C ;o) You both are very resiliant and after all you guys went through last year, you totally deserve to have a great new year!! I remember 7th grade too. It was the year I broke my arm, lol. I haven't been to the drive in  in YEARS!! Sounds like fun ;o)  Maybe next year my kids will be old enough to experience it.  "The Pretender" was always one of my favorite tv shows. I was so disappointed when they canceled it. At least we have the reruns though....HUbby just LOVES "Ms. Parker"  hehe....
