We're one, but we're not the same, we get to carry each other...

Well.

You know, my mind tries to look at what's going on objectively, and it can't...it veers away. Weird. My only issues are that this stupid migraine won't go away; also, I'm apparently going to need to pry my floor-sleeper out of the apartment because he hasn't budged. Is he going to just keep sitting there even after we move?

But everything else, I just try to look at from my mother's perspective, and I want to be a better daughter. My grandfather has never quite recovered from his brain surgery last year, and tonight my mom is with him back at the hospital. My brother, in the meantime, is starting his third week of treatment for leukemia. We're still healing from the loss of my grandmother to ovarian cancer, and so learning this about my brother was a blow.

I had three hospital stays in three years, it's my time to be healthy; I just need to get there. I want to support my mom and not be so tired all the time.

Life's too short.

So now, totally unrelated, I thought I'd cheer us up (or, well, me up) with a film clip! Have you ever seen "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"? You haven't? Why not???!!! This is my heritage, yo! LOLOL

So, this is my very favorite part of the movie, because the guys have been running from the law this whole time and have no idea that the record they made as The Soggy Bottom Boys has become a BONA FIDE hit! And if you feel the need to make fun of the accents or the dancing, go ahead, but tread lightly, because I grew up with grandparents and great-grandparents that sang and danced EXACTLY like this! :)

p.s. The clip isn't perfect but it's the best I could find...and oh, yeah, it's dubbed in French. AHAHAHA

  1. I seriously think you should just move and leave him there. He doesn't belong to you.

    1. I know...Chelsea thinks he really is going to try and wait us out. She wants to start packing up the living room around him and be as loud and obnoxious as possible - I guess that's what we'll do! I can't believe this is my crazy life...

  2. Life's always a bit of a muddle, truely. I have felt that keenly of late. Am also fan of that film (and song, which is a distinctly American treasure). My best to you in sorting these events --sounds as if your role is clear to you. Brave Michelle, my compliments.

    1. Oh, thank you, Geo.! A bit of a muddle, that's exactly it! Oh, and I love that song so much...I love the recording of them (Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski and the rest) when they're here in town playing that song, and he gets to the part about old Kentucky, and this ROAR just comes up from the crowd, it's so great! :)

  3. Hey Grace,
I agree and admit the same lines with you that, "Life's too short". I hope things will get better for you. This is a poor man but definitely a good friend from Bhutan sending you all wishes and prayers to let all of your family live their lives. Please take care of them because family means everything to us. They are the beacon of inspiration, root of happiness and cradle of comfort for us. God bless you and your family.

Yeah, this movie is awesome! I just love the look on George Clooney's face when he sees the crowd's reaction and turns back and looks at the guys like, What am I missing here? LOL

  5. It's a great movie! Also, have you checked to see whether or not the floor-sleeper is in fact dead?

    1. A couple of times I DID think so, because he slept like 16-20 hours for some reason, but no...I hear him at night on his headphone things, playing his MMORPGs, or whatever they're called. :( Chelsea calls it 'keeping her awake all night with his yelling'.

  7. Yeah, for starters let's get you over that almost-endless headache. But man, thinking about all of those serious family health challenges would give anybody a headache. May your grandfather improve and your brother soldier successfully through the chemo.
Brother Where Art Thou is a great movie! Do you play an instrument? I think it's fantastic that you're relatives could sing and dance like that! My hubbie was in a bluegrass band back in the day, so I have a fondness for such stuff. And I think it's hilarious to watch this clip in French.

    1. I know! I'm wondering if they spoke French with a hillbilly accent! LOL

My grandma brought us up singing all those 'old-time-y' songs, she was born and raised in the Eastern Kentucky mountains, she bought me my guitar when I was 7 or 8, made sure I had lessons, and then made me learn songs like 'Wildwood Flower' and 'I'll Fly Away'. The only music that existed to her was bluegrass music!

I still have my migraine today, I should have gone to the doctor but my mom was at the hospital all day and I just couldn't. This is a really bad one, my pain meds aren't even touching it. I just have to focus on my mom and my grandpa and my brother! :)

  12. Dang, we're in a tight spot.

Ah!!! I love that movie. It's a classic in our home. All movies strange, eclectic, and Cohen brothers goes in our library.

Michelle, I say let the landlord deal with the floor-dweller after you're gone. =) I'm sending positive vibes your way with cheese, of course. We definitely have seasons, eh?

  13. Aw, Michelle. So much is going on with you. I hope your head is doing better. I'm fighting the effects of a killer migraine from yesterday. These things suck. My son loves this movie - I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Best wishes to your brother too.

  14. Hello Grace
Sometimes life just sucks and we feel as if we are outsiders looking in and powerless to do anything about it.
Those we love who are fighting illness is certainly one of those times. I wish you the strength to cope with negative factors right now.
I loved the movie, "Oh Brother where art thou," in fact I had a copy of it because I liked the music. In a move I made last summer I had to dispose of most of my DVD's and that one didn't make the cut.
Blessings to your grandparents and your brother.
