As usual, I had nothing to do with the idea behind or the taking of this picture. This time Dwayne was my go-to person...

Me: I need something that starts with `R` that I can take a picture of.

Dwayne: How about `R` is for this ray of sunshine that I'm staring at right now?

See? That seems so easy, right? But my mind does not work that way. Creativity just isn't my thing.

Dwayne took the picture, too. He's so awesome...

The picture was taken after my appointment at the doctor's office this afternoon. School was cancelled this morning because it was snowing snowing snowing and then by 3:30 the sky was completely clear and migraine sunny.

When I walked out of the apartment this morning, my world looked like this:

You know, snowing

I was late to work today. I live on top of a very steep hill. Mom came the back way to pick me up, and the car slid in the snow right past my entrance. 

She had to turn around and come back up the hill, and nearly got stuck. 

But she didn't. Unlike my sister-in-law, who DID get stuck on Friday, and had to leave her car at my mom's...and Dwayne, who also got stuck on Friday, but managed to back out of it.

Living on a hill is hilariously funny at times.

Friday's snow

I'm dreadfully behind and I've been dreadfully sick. I don't know if it's the flu. How can it be? I HAD A FLU SHOT. I worked two whole days last week. I'm still feverish and headache-y and nauseated and I'm so dehydrated and I can't get enough water.

And I'm full of things to talk about but my head is so heavy...I want to talk about Friday's ice and snow and the two and a half hour journey it took to get home and how we actually did get stuck going up our hill, it was pretty funny. 

Mark and I finally switched seats at work, and I love it. Except that I am closer to more annoying people talking so I need better headphones for my iPod. And I have less privacy, but I knew that going in. I didn't count on the annoying people talking part, though. The headphones can't come fast enough!!

I apologize for my sloppy blogging and blog-visiting...I am sure I will start feeling better this week. Pleeeeeease let me feel better this week...

Last day...

It's my last day of work until 2005...yay!  I've been waiting for this day since...um...July, I think, when I used up the last of my vacation days...they start all over again in January.
How's this for a New Year Resolution?  I WILL NOT USE ALL MY DAYS TOO QUICKLY!
I have a real problem...it's called, if I have a day off available, I WILL USE IT! What else is it for!? LOL...
So, off to work I go...last night when I came home, I got stuck coming into my driveway...it's been above freezing and melting the foot of snow which isn't as good as it sounds, because now there's no traction, hence, my getting stuck...
I ended up parking half in my grandparent's driveway and half on the sidewalk, that's as far as I could go, so hopefully I won't get stuck trying to get out today...

Ode To My Neighbors

My neighbors across the street have been remodeling their house for the last few months, and it is turning out gorgeous.  I stepped out on my porch a while ago and watched their TV for a few seconds - they have big picture windows all the way across the front of their house now and we now have a great view of their giant widescreen TV.  I can almost see it flickering through the windows of my house, it's that big.
All kidding aside, and besides the fact that they let us watch their TV, I'm always struck by how lucky I am to have neighbors like this.  They are quite possibly the best neighbors, anywhere, ever.  I'm very lucky, let me tell you...
One day it had snowed 20 inches here in Louisville.  I was coming home from work early in the morning, and GOT STUCK TRYING TO GET IN MY DRIVEWAY.  It's been documented, I'm a bad driver - I had no idea how to get unstuck.  I go back and forth, back and forth...suddenly I see a figure come up beside my car.  It's Johnnie with his shovel.  He's a hero!  He digs, and digs, and digs...and finally I get out of the street and all is well.
I used to leave my headlights on all the time in my old car.  Johnnie would come over, open my car door, and turn them off for me.
Johnnie's husband, Dwayne, is who my daughter goes to when she's fundraising.  He always buys a ton of stuff from her, and says, "Whenever you're selling something like this, always come to us, we'll buy whatever it is". 
One time I had a box sitting on my front porch.  I wasn't home.  Johnnie and Dwayne were.  They saw a stranger come up to my porch, grab the box, and take off down the street.  Johnnie (and please don't do this at home) takes off after the guy and confronts him a couple of blocks down.  Johnnie: "I saw you take that from my neighbor's porch, I need it back!"  The thief: "Oh, did they want this box?"  Johnnie retrieved the box from the thief and kept it for safekeeping until we got home.  I couldn't believe Johnnie did that, he could have been hurt!  But he did it anyway.
The list goes on.  I can only hope that I've been as good a neighbor to them as they've been to me.  It's so comforting to know that they're there, watching over me... that's what being neighborly is all about. 
We all need to watch out for each other like this.
